AIL with Advice to I.U.P.A. Members: Things to Consider Before Buying Life Insurance

Life insurance is not the mysterious unknown some people may look upon with fear and dread. Rather, life insurance is simply a contract between you (the insured) and an insurance company, in which you agree to pay the insurance company the premiums according to the terms of your policy. In return, upon your death, the insurance company agrees to pay the amount you chose as the death benefit to the person you designated as your beneficiary.   The old saying goes “Life insurance is for the living,” and it’s true. Beyond possibly a sense of satisfaction at having taken a step [...]

President Sam A. Cabral’s Editorial: Just the Facts

International Union of Police Associations EDITORIAL:  By: Sam Cabral, President International Union of Police Associations Sarasota, Florida Just the Facts: I hear the hand wringing lament of political figures and the news media about the broad distrust of America’s Law Enforcement Officers. The fact is this is simply untrue. According to a Gallup Poll, conducted in December of 2020, your American Law Enforcement Officer is the fifth most trusted profession in this great nation. https://news.gallup.com/poll/328136/ethics-ratings-rise-medical-workers-teachers.aspx This drone of rhetoric, shouted by a vocal minority and repeated by a dishonest media as well as some political figures, is intended to divide this nation [...]

Preventing and Insuring Data Breaches

Ullico Executives Tina Fletcher and Marc Zinsmeister recently spoke to the IBEW-NECA on "Preventing & Insuring Data Breaches." Below is a summary highlighting key points from their talk. Data breaches are no joke. They can cause interruptions in your operations, result in direct financial losses, jeopardize your reputation, and lead to costly lawsuits. Cyber insurance policies can mitigate some of these losses as one aspect of a well-rounded risk-management plan. To help multiemployer fund trustees and unions think through their cyber security and insurance strategies, Tina Fletcher, president of Ullico Casualty Group, and Marc Zinsmeister, vice president of information technology, recently spoke [...]

History On The Walls Of The I.U.P.A.

If you walk the halls of the I.U.P.A. Headquarters, you might think you are in a museum. Each hallway is lined with historical pictures, charters, documents, awards, and tokens of appreciation that denote four decades of dedication to the members of the I.U.P.A. and to the law enforcement community as a whole. Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Act The Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Act (PSOB) was enacted on September 29, 1976, when President Gerald R. I.U.P.A. Local, Yonkers PBA’s BRICK Program

In recent years it has become more and more evident that there is a need to build relationships and to heal old wounds between police and the communities we serve. With this in mind, in 2017, I.U.P.A. local, the Yonkers PBA created the B.R.I.C.K. program which stands for Building Relationships through Interactions with Cops and Kids. We recognize that like building a home, building relationships are done one step at a time, or, one BRICK at a time. Along with local high schools, the PBA hosts BRICK sessions where we gather thirty or so students mixed with six to eight cops in [...]
