Legislative Update

The I.U.P.A. has become the most politically influential voice on law enforcement issues on the federal, state, and local levels for issues that affect you and your community. We have always maintained a presence in Washington, D.C. and our Legislative office is located in Alexandria, VA, just across the Potomac from Capitol Hill. We generally confine our legislative program to issues impacting wages, hours, and working conditions of first responders. That does not, however, preclude us from using our influences on other matters of concern to public safety.

Lobbying federal officials and representatives on behalf of locals, we also meet regularly with Members of Congress and make endorsements in local and state campaigns based on your requests and recommendations. We count on our members to advise us on issues relevant to you and your members.

Our goal is keep our members abreast of legislative issues impacting them and their families and to use our political power to benefit public safety officers and the labor movement as a whole.
