Broward County Lieutenants, I.U.P.A. Local 6021 along with I.U.P.A. General Counsel Maria Kazouris negotiated a newly ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that delivers salary increases ranging from 20.7% to 48.3%.
This is an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the essential leadership, professionalism, and responsibility officers bring to the department every single day. The raise reflects the vital role the BSO lieutenants play in safeguarding our communities and ensuring the effective leadership and coordination of daily operations.
As part of the agreement, they also secured:
1. Overtime Pay for Special Events (Article 10.5)
Members will receive overtime compensation for special event assignments.
2. Retirement Health Savings Plan (RHSP) (Article 15.5)
The Sheriff will contribute 2% of each lieutenant’s base biweekly pay toward an RHSP, retroactive to promotions on or after October 1, 2007. Members enrolled in the RHSP will be eligible to receive the benefit upon meeting normal retirement eligibility.
3. Salary Adjustments (Effective October 1, 2025)
i. Members will be transitioned to a new 8-step salary plan.
ii. Year 1 (2025): Increases range from 20.7% to 48.3% based on re-categorization.
iii. Year 2 (2026): All steps receive increases ranging from 2.6% to 3%. (Article 17 & Appendix A)
4. Educational Incentive Pay (Article 23.2)
Members may receive up to $130 per month in education-related incentive pay.
5. Disciplinary Protections (Article 27)
No disciplinary action shall be taken without just cause.
