Lakewood Police Union, I.U.P.A. Local #303 Members’ police work was featured in some posts by the Lakewood Police Department to share about their traffic enforcement efforts!

In separate posts in recent months, Lakewood Police Department shared:

  • Our Traffic Team caught this driver hitting 128 mph on EB 6th Ave near Indiana. For those doing the math at home, that’s nearly double the 65 mph speed limit. Unless you’re trying to travel back to 1985, there is absolutely no reason to be moving this fast on the road. Please slow down, Lakewood. We’d much rather meet you at a community event than on the side of the highway.
  • Speeding is NOT on the Nice List! This driver was in a HUGE hurry to get… well, we’re not sure where, but it certainly wasn’t safe! Our Agent clocked a vehicle going 101 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on eastbound 6th Ave. near Indiana. Did we mention the expired tags? That’s a ticket that definitely won’t fit under the tree. 🎁 Remember, the best gift you can give your loved ones this season is making it home safely. Slow down, observe the speed limits, and help keep our community safe! Driving safely is always in season.
  • You just never know what a night on patrol will bring. Last week, Agents had a dirt bike with no license plate that eluded them when they attempted to pull it over. The next night, the same driver was on the bike, riding on the sidewalk. What started as a simple traffic stop, turned into a case involving a stolen motorcycle and a cache of weapons on the suspect.
  • Don’t run from the police. It never works out well. A driver was observed driving without a license plate. When an LPD Agent attempted to pull the driver over, he sped off. Using our drone as a first responder, the vehicle was found. When Agents again attempted to stop the driver, he and a passenger ran into an apartment and closed the door. Agents immediately began ordering the driver out and he refused. Agents created a perimeter and informed the suspect that they would not be leaving. Just over 30 minutes later, the suspect peacefully surrendered to Agents. The driver was arrested and taken to jail on suspicion of Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Driving After Revocation Prohibited and No Insurance. The suspect also had several warrants for his arrest from other agencies around the metro area.
  • Another day, another person who can’t slow down. This 20-year-old was clocked going 95 in a 65 zone at 6th and Simms. Save your money for the upcoming holiday season. A speeding ticket isn’t worth it!
  • Our Traffic Unit pulled over this motorcycle this morning going 56 mph over the speed limit! Yes… 56 mph over. This rider will be potentially facing jail time and mandatory suspension of license for up to a year. Slow down and stay safe Lakewood. It’s just not worth the hassle.
  • Our School Zone Slowdown operation may be over, but it doesn’t mean we’ve stopped cracking down on school zone violations. Our traffic team caught this driver going almost 30 mph over the speed limit in a school zone. It’s not worth putting children’s safety at risk or having to pay a hefty fine! Let’s all slow down and keep ourselves and each other safe.
  • We just had a rather speedy encounter with a beautiful Corvette on one of our streets. This fine piece of machinery decided to push its limits a bit too much, clocking in at 72 mph in a 40-mph zone! Look, we get it, those cars are built for speed, but our Lakewood roads? Not so much. That’s a ticket that’ll certainly slow down the fun and the wallet. Remember, those speed limit signs aren’t just suggestions. They’re there to keep everyone—pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers—safe. Slow down, enjoy the drive, and save the high speeds for the track. We’d much rather see you cruising safely than signing a citation!
  • Another example of great proactive work by our Agents. While on routine patrol near 14th and Estes this afternoon, an LPD Agent observed a motorcycle without a license plate. While investigating, the same Agent observed another suspicious motorcycle in the area. As it turned out, one of the bikes was unregistered without a VIN and the other was stolen. Great job proactive policing Agents!
  • Most people think that our daily lives are like an episode of COPS. Believe it or not, it’s not all foot chases and vehicle pursuits. This is a shining example of the type of calls our Agents respond to every day. A man called in to 911 saying he had a knife and wanted to hurt people. Agent Lynn realized that this man was having a mental health crisis and made the call to speak to him on the phone before Agents even arrived. What could have been a potentially violent situation, turned into a man getting the mental health help he so desperately needed. All LPD Agents take mental health crisis intervention training. Situations like these are why.
