Sarasota County School Police Association, I.U.P.A. Local #6046 Local Leader Mary McCarrick was honored by I.U.P.A. President Sam A. Cabral at the International Headquarters for her exceptional leadership of I.U.P.A. Local #6046 as well as her dedication and service to the safety of students in Sarasota County.
McCarrick served as I.U.P.A. Local #6046 Vice President in 2018, then as President when the former President retired. She was re-elected four years later, serving two terms as President. Under her leadership, I.U.P.A. Local #6046 has created Collective Bargaining Agreements that ensure the rank-and-file officers are protected with great benefits. She was instrumental in organizing the officer and sergeant units. She handled numerous disciplinary actions, negotiating the preservation of employees who were scheduled to be laid off unfairly. She defended officers pay and benefits during a budget crisis. She has been an unparalleled leader and advocate for her members and her local. While accomplishing all of this, she was a School Resource Officer and worked complete shifts protecting the students of the Sarasota County School District.
On May 29, 2026, McCarrick will go to work one last time with Sarasota County Schools Police Department, and on August 3, 2026, she will officially retire after a meaningful career that is a shining example of a life dedicated to public service and to union work and the improvement of work conditions, benefits, equipment, and more for her fellow law enforcement professionals. Her hard work and dedication will not be forgotten and forever appreciated.
Each week, the I.U.P.A. Briefing Room features a photo that exemplifies the valuable part of the community that our Law Enforcement Officers all across the U.S. are and their positive impact as well as their dedication, service, and sacrifice.
