I.U.P.A. and Howard County Public Safety Dispatchers Association are so pleased to commend our member, Kristi Carter, on being awarded the HCPD Telecommunicator of the Year Award as well as for the noteworthy record of service and hard work that the award honored. She is truly an inspiration to others and an excellent example to aspire to.

Kristi has always known she wanted to be a dispatcher and now she trains other dispatchers to do the job that she is truly passionate about and dedicated to. She is the daughter of the Chief of the volunteer fire department and a volunteer firefighter as well, when she is not at work saving lives and helping people there.

Howard County Public Safety Dispatchers Association posted on Facebook about this momentous achievement, “Congratulations to HCPSDA member Kristi Carter on receiving this year’s HCPD Telecommunicator of the year award! Kristi excels at anything she gets involved with and is an asset to our agency and team! Thank you to HCPD for recognizing her exceptional work ethic and devotion to duty!”

Howard County Police Department also posted about Kristi, when they shared the above video celebrating her accomplishment, “Congratulations to Dispatcher First Class Kristi Carter on being named the Telecommunicator of the Year in 2020! Kristi comes from a firefighting family and knew she wanted to be a dispatcher at a young age. In 2020, she distinguished herself as fire dispatcher trainer, logging more than 500 hours training. She created her own materials and methods to make this difficult task easier for the dispatchers she trained. She is also the CPR instructor for all dispatchers and serves on numerous committees. All this in addition to her regular role as a police call-taker and fire dispatcher! Kristi is a huge asset to HCPD, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, and the entire communications division!”
