Photos of the Week: Advocating for LEOs

The Broward Deputy Sheriffs Association, I.U.P.A. Local 6020, President Matthew Cowart along with former Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy Maury Hernandez met with lawmakers in Tallahassee, Florida to advocate for law enforcement officers through legislation that will restore cost-of-living adjustments to the Florida Retirement System as well as an appropriation to compensate Deputy Hernandez for serious injuries he sustained in the line of duty when he was shot in the head.

Broward Deputy Sheriffs Association, I.U.P.A. Local 6020 posted the below photos to social media along with messages of thanks and goodwill for lawmakers. One such post read, “The International Union of Police Associations (I.U.P.A.) Local 6020 thanks Senator Jason Pizzo for making time to talk today at the Capitol with I.U.P.A. Local 6020 President Matt Cowart and former Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Maury Hernandez. Senator Pizzo is a co-sponsor of SB 14, a claim bill for former Deputy Hernandez who was shot in the head in the line of duty. Senator Pizzo is also a supporter of improving Florida Retirement System benefits to include the restoration of the cost-of-living adjustment to the pension system. Thank you, Senator Pizzo, Legislative Aide Callari, and all staff members at the office for all of your hard work and dedication supporting law enforcement officers.”
