Photos of the Week: Zora Shrine’s Festival of Trees

I.U.P.A. Local Terre Haute Police Officers Local 133 donated to Zora Shrine’s Festival of Trees for their fundraiser raffle. I.U.P.A. Local 133 Secretary Daniel LaFave shared about the event, “Our local Zorah Shrine hosted a fundraiser where different organizations would purchase a tree to decorate and fill with gifts.  They then charge admission (which includes Santa, cookie decorating, and food) that allows everyone to walk around and check out 80 different decorated trees.  They sell raffle tickets and you can put tickets in the trees you like most.  They then draw a ticket from each tree and the winning ticket gets to keep the tree, decorations, and all gifts with it.”

He continued, “Local 133 purchased a tree and a few members spent a day decorating it.  We then took donations from members to place gifts under the tree.  We had several police-related gifts under the tree.  The tree had I.U.P.A. in front of it along with a handcuff garland and some red and blue lights on top.  It was the best decorated tree there.” The police officers, in good fun, had a rivalry with the firefighters, and competed over who could raise the most money. In all, over $80,000 was raised for Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Terre Haute Police Officers Local 133 posted on social media to promote the event, “I.U.P.A. Elves have been busy decorating a tree we sponsored for the upcoming Zora Shrine’s Festival of Trees.”

Each week, the I.U.P.A. Briefing Room features a photo that exemplifies the valuable part of the community that our Law Enforcement Officers all across the U.S. are and their positive impact as well as their dedication, service, and sacrifice.
