Photos of the Week: Sarasota Police Officer Michael Skinner

I.U.P.A. Local Sarasota Police Officers Association, #6045 Member Police Officer Michael Skinner was recognized at the I.U.P.A. Headquarters by I.U.P.A. President Sam A. Cabral.

Police Officer Michael Skinner was presented with a letter, a certificate, and a plaque that spoke of his valiant lifesaving actions, “You responded to a distress call regarding an unmanned vessel circling in the water near Channel Marker 72. Upon arrival, you observed an unconscious man on the deck of the boat and that the boat was spinning out of control.”

The description continued, “You expertly intercepted the boat, wedging it against the seawall with your boat, climbing onboard, and shutting down the engine. Sarasota County Fire Rescue was on standby at the seawall and because of your actions, they were able to provide medical aid that saved his life.”

In President Cabral’s letter, he stated, “On behalf of the whole of the I.U.P.A., you have our thanks and commendation for your exemplary service. You are a true hero and a reminder of why officers put on their uniforms each and every day.” The I.U.P.A. also put out a statement from President Cabral that you can view here. News media also published two articles that you can view here and here.
