Photos of the Week: POW/MIA Recognition Day

I.U.P.A. Local Hammond Police Association, #345 Members Patrick Petermann, Garrett Banquer, Charlie Monistere (ret.), and Brandon Small participated in a ceremony for POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is the third Friday of September every year. The U.S. Department of Defense describes this day on their website as, “National POW/MIA Recognition Day, the third Friday in September, honors U.S. service members who were prisoners of war and those still missing in action from every conflict since, and including, World War II.”

The Hammond Police Department posted the below photos on social media, “ Honoring Our Heroes🙏 Today, we had the privilege of witnessing a powerful POW MIA ceremony at Cate Square Park, where our dedicated officers stood in silent respect, paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. 🎗  Their unwavering commitment to never forgetting our Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action serves as a reminder that freedom isn’t free 🙌 Let us always remember and honor these brave souls who defend our freedom. 🙏🕊”

Each week, the I.U.P.A. Briefing Room features a photo that exemplifies the valuable part of the community that our Law Enforcement Officers all across the U.S. are and their positive impact as well as their dedication, service, and sacrifice.
