UWAC Powered by TRIADA: Neck Pain Exercise Tips

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) reports that each year, nearly one third of the population will experience neck pain. This number seems to be continuing to rise with more people working from a desk and the increased use of screen time. There are a few different types of neck pain, but the most common type is mechanical neck pain. Mechanical neck pain stems from the cervical spine, or upper spine, and neck, which is composed of many muscles, tendons, and ligaments that contract and constrict throughout the day. These supporting structures may need to be addressed to improve the pain [...]

I.U.P.A. Briefing Room Photo of the Week from Washington, D.C.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726, which designated May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.  The law was amended by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, Public Law 103-322, signed by President Bill Clinton, directing that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on all government buildings on May 15 each year.  While the actual dates change from year to year, National Police Week is always the calendar week, beginning on Sunday, which includes May 15. Each week, [...]

The I.U.P.A. Strongly Encourages Retired Officers to Volunteer with CopLine

We all know of some of the horrors that our brothers and sisters take home with them each night and live with - the scenes that cannot be unseen. Many of us cannot share these things with our family as we don’t want them to house the demons that haunt us.  Sadly, some of the coping mechanisms we use are detrimental to us, to our families, and to our fellow officers.  Drug and alcohol abuse, depression, and, far too often, suicide. We lose more cops to their own hands than we do to those who assault us. We do not even [...]

The current U.S. life expectancy is 78.8 years,1 and most Americans expect to retire around age 61.2 That means, on average, you may need to plan for 18 years of living after retirement. Budgeting to create a retirement portfolio that will provide income for you after you leave the workforce can be daunting. How much will you need? Where does one begin? Experts differ on the ideal amounts to set aside for retirement, and factors such as inflation, rates of return, time horizon for retirement dates, taxation, Social Security, and even legislation will greatly affect projected outcomes. However, inferences can be made [...]
